bĕnĕ-vŏlus (in MSS. and inscrr. often bĕnĭvŏlus), a, um, adj. [volo], well-wishing, benevolent, kind, friendly, favorable (class. for the ante-class. benevolens, from which it borrows the comp. and sup.; cf. malevolus):
