Поглощение компании, акции которой котируются ниже стоимости ее активов (asset value), и последующая распродажа наиболее ценных активов компании. “Освобождение от активов” впервые начало входить в практику в первое десятилетие после второй мировой войны, когда стоимость имущества резко возрастала. Определив подходящую компанию, предприниматель начинает скупать на фондовой бирже ее акции до тех пор, пока не получит контрольный пакет; после переоценки приобретенных активов компании он может их полностью или частично реализовать за наличные деньги, которые подлежат распределению среди акционеров (в число которых теперь входит и он сам). Затем он может либо обновить менеджмент компании и позднее выгодно продать свой пакет акций, либо, в некоторых случаях, ликвидировать предприятие.
