61 Flat
A manufacturing term which means that two picks have been woven together as one in the same shed and is a fault in weaving. A similar fault occurs in the warp in a plain cloth, when one end is missing two ends weaving alike come together and form a flat. -
62 Flat Canvas
A term denoting the cotton canvas cloth used as a ground for embroidery. It is heavily calendered to give a flat surface upon which the design is sketched. -
63 Flat Crepe
An all-silk fabric woven from a raw silk warp and a crepe-de-chine hard twisted weft. The finished cloth is flat and has a satin effect to the handle. Plain weave and usually more ends than picks. Many qualities are made from pure silk fabric down to cloths containing as much as 24 per cent of added weight. -
64 Flat Crepe Yarn
A regular flat crepe yarn has a large number of turns per inch, so that when the fabric is finished it will have a real crepe effect. The turns are 50 to 55 per inch and the yarn is generally used 2 picks right-hand, 2 picks left-hand twist. (See French Crepe Yarn.) -
