חִלְחֵל(b. h.; Pilp. of חלל) 1) to penetrate into cavities; to perforate. Sot.7b; Num. R. s. 9 מְחַלְחֵל ויורד (the powder on a wound) penetrates and goes down (into the body). Gen. R. s. 98 ריסו מח׳וכ׳ its venom penetrates (the body of the bitten one) after (the serpents) death. 2) to shake, roll (in a vessel); to rinse. Makhsh. III, 6 ח׳ לתוכן if he washed olives by rolling them in the rain water.Part. pass. מְחוּלְחָל, f. מְחוּלְחֶלֶת hollow, blown up; loosely put in. Oh. IX, 7 כלי מח׳ a hollow vessel (not packed entirely), opp. אֲפוּצָה. Kel. Hithpalp. הִתְחַלְחֵל, Nithpalp. נִתְחַלְחֵל: 1) to permeate. Num. R. s. 9 שהם מִתְחַלְחֲלִיםוכ׳ that they will permeate all her limbs. 2) to be shaken in a hollow space, to be thrown about. Mikv. IV, 3 היו צרורות מתח׳וכ׳ if pebbles rolled about in the spout. 3) to be permeated (with poison) to be affected, injured. Y.B. פָּצַע(b. h.; cmp. preced.) 1) to split, crack or squeeze open; to wound. B. Kam.93a הכני פְּצָעֵנִי על מנת לפטור פטור (if one said to ones neighbor) strike me, wound me, with the condition that thou be free (from indemnity): he is free. Ib. הכני פצעני על מנת לפטורוכ׳ (if he said) ‘strike me, wound me, (and he is aked,) with the condition that I shall be free?, and he answers, yes. Sabb.VII, 2 הפּוֹצֵעַ שני חוטין he who divides off two threads (on the loom). Tosef. ib. VIII (IX), 21 כדי לִפְצוֹעַוכ׳ large enough to divide with it two threads (on each side) at a time. Yalk.
