μέγαρον ( μέγας): properly large room.— (1) the men's dining-hall, the chief room of the Homeric house. The roof was supported by columns, the light entered through the doors, the smoke escaped by an opening overhead and through loop - holes ( ὀπαῖα) just under the roof.
