Actium, ī, n. (Ἄκτιον), I) Vorgebirge in Akarnanien, früher bloß mit einem dem Apollo von den Argonauten errichteten Tempel, bei dem jährlich zu Ehren dieses Gottes ein Fest mit Spielen gefeiert wurde, später mit einer von Augustus zur Erinnerung seines Seesieges über Antonius u. Kleopatra (31 v. Chr.) erbauten Stadt gleichen Namens, aus gleicher Veranlassung erneutem Tempel u. erneuten Spielen (vgl. Plin. 4, 5 u. Heyne zu Verg. Aen. 3, 280). Cic. ep. 16, 6; ad Att. 5, 9, 1. Mel. 2. § 54. – II) Hafen u.
