קִעְקֵעַI (onomatop.) to cackle; to call hens by imitating their cackling. Kidd.31a (sarcastically) הטל … וקַעְקֵעַ להןוכ׳ put water in a bowl and call them as you do hens.

קִעְקֵעַII (transpos. of עקעק, v. עוּק; cmp. גִּעְגֵּעַ) 1) to engrave (cmp. חָקַק); to etch in. Macc.III, 6 כתב ולא ק׳ ק׳ … וִיקַעְקֵעַ if he writes (on his skin) but makes no impression, or makes an impression but does not write, he is not guilty (of trespassing the law, Lev. 19:28) until he writes and stamps with ink ; Sifra Kdoshim, Par. 3, ch. VI; a. e. 2) to stamp out, exterminate. Y.Ab. Zar. IV, 44a top, a. e., v. בֵּיצָה. Tosef.B. Kam. X, 5; Y.Gitt.V, 47a bot. יְקַעְקֵעַ כל הבירהוכ׳ he must (if necessary) take down the entire group of buildings in order to restore it (the stolen beam). Ex. R. s. 35 החריבה אזתו אלא שלא קִעְקְעָה אותווכ׳ she (Babylon) laid the Temple in ruins, but she did not stamp it out, whereas of Edom it is written (Ps. 137:7), ‘raze it, raze it Hithpa. הִתְקַעְקֵעַ, Nithpa. נִתְקַעְקֵעַ to be stamped out, v. בֵּיצָה. Esth. R. to I, 7 מי גרם … שתִּתְקַעְקֵעַ ביצתווכ׳ what was the cause that Belshazzars dynasty was entirely exterminated? Ruth R. to IV, 14 מברכותיהן … לא נִתְקַעְקְעָה ביצתווכ׳ owing to the blessings of the women, the seed of David was not entirely exterminated in the days of Athaliah. Pesik. R. s. 12 ואימתי שמשו שוקעת וביצתו מִתְקַעְקַעַתוכ׳ and when shall his (Amaleks) sun go down and his egg be stamped out and his seed uprooted?
