חדקל

חִדֶּקֶל(b. h.) pr. n. Hiddekel, Tigris. Gen. R. s. 16; Ber.59b, v. חַד I.

חַדI m. (b. h.; חדד) 1) pointed, sharp. Ḥull.64a ראשה אחד חד if one side of the egg is pointed, the other rounded (כַּד); Ib. (Chald.) רישיה חד חד.Pl. חַדִּין. Ib.Fem. חַדָּה. Snh.94a. Ber.10a אפי׳ חרב ח׳וכ׳ even if a sharpened sword is laid on ones throat, one must not despair of praying for divine mercy. Gen. R. s. 16 (play on ח̇ד̇ק̇ל̇, Gen. 2:14) שהיתה ק̇ל̇ה וח̇ד̇הוכ׳ (Greece) who was rash and sharp in her decrees. 2) swift. Pl. as ab.
