Form. 382f.), so prob. from a noun, which was perh. derived from εἰλέω (*Ϝελ-νέ-ω) `turn, wind' (s. v.). - The ep. epithet ἕλιξ is prob. with Bechtel Lex. s. v. and Risch 149 a shortened compound (*ἑλικό-πους, - κραιρα?).
