κρανίον, ου, τό (Hom. et al.; pap, LXX; ApcEsdr 5:24 p. 30, 28 Tdf.; Jos., Bell. 3, 245, Ant. 8, 390) skull κρανίου (epexegetic gen.) τόπος the place that is called (a) Skull as a transl. of Γολγοθᾶ (q.v.) Mt 27:33; Mk 15:22; J 19:17. Cp. Lk 23:33, where ‘Calvary’ of the KJV is not a NT place name, but the Lat. transl. of κ. (s. Goodsp., Probs. 89f).
