1 δέελος
Grammatical information: m.Etymology: Ruijgh, Lingua 25 (1970) 319 (s.v. δῆλος) thinks that the identification of δέελος with δῆλος is a mistake of ancient grammarians. Note that δέαλος could well have been used in this place. "the presence of τε after σῆμα obliges to see δέελον as a substantive." Hesychius gives the right form. It is derived from δέω `bind', with the suffix - ελο-, i.e. * deh₁-elo-. It could have meant (French) `lien'. (He also gives another possibility, which seems less probable to me.) Cf. also δῆλος.Page in Frisk: 1,354Greek-English etymological dictionary (Ελληνικά-Αγγλικά ετυμολογική λεξικό) > δέελος

7 εὐδείελος
Grammatical information: adj.Meaning: adjunct of places, in the Od. almost only of Ithaca, also of Κρίση (h. Ap. 438), of the mountain Κρόνιον (Pi. O. 1, 111) a. o. ( Od.).Origin: XX [etym. unknown]Etymology: One posited with Schulze Q. 244 metrical lengthening of *εὐ-δέελος `well visible', to δέελος (Κ 466); on the change - ει-: - ε- see Chantraine Gramm. hom. 1, 166ff. But see now on δέελος. - Further εὔδειλον Alc. G I 2 ( POxy. 2165 I 2; unclear; [ λόφος] is a quite uncertain emendation of Gallavotti). - The connection with δείελος, δείλη `evening', `with beautiful evenings' v.t. (Düntzer, Gentili Maia 2: 3, 1f.) is doubtfull.Page in Frisk: 1,584Greek-English etymological dictionary (Ελληνικά-Αγγλικά ετυμολογική λεξικό) > εὐδείελος

8 δῆλος
Grammatical information: adj.Other forms: beside δέελος `visible' (Κ 466).Derivatives: Denomin. δηλόω `make clear' (Ion.-Att.) with δήλωσις, δήλωμα (Att. etc.), δηλωτικός (Hp.). - Often with prefix: ἀρί-δηλος (with, through inverted writing [cf. ζα- = δα-], ἀρί-ζηλος), ἔκ-, ἔν-, ἐπί-, κατά-δηλος etc. with ἐκδηλόω etc. See Strömberg Greek Prefix Studies (Index s. vv.). δεϜαλῶσαι (BCH 1988, 283f., Mantinea IVa) with hypercorrect F (RPh 71, 1997, 156).Etymology: The glosses δίαλον φανερόν and διάλας τὰς δήλας καὶ φανεράς H., dialectical for δεα-, show that δῆλος continues *δέαλος \< *dei̯h₂lo-, cognate with δέατο \< *dei̯h₂-to (s. v.). This fits also for ἔκδηλος in Ε 2 (Bechtel Lex. 98). (Diff. Schulze Q. 244 A. 2, Chantr. Form. 242.) - On δέελος s.v.
