Fluß in der Unterwelt, über den die Schatten wandern mußten, Cic. de nat. deor. 3, 43 u.s.: dah. für die Unterwelt selbst (in Prosa Acheruns, w.s.), Hor. carm. 1, 3, 36: Acheronta movebo, die Hölle (wir sagen: Himmel u. Erde) in Bewegung setzen, Verg.
