В 1866 воодушевленный успехами Красного Облака [ Red Cloud] возглавил борьбу за прекращение использования американцами дороги, пересекавшей охотничьи угодья племени вдоль р. Смоки-Хилл [ Smoky Hill River], и уничтожение всех станций на ней. Отказался подписать договор, заключенный на ручье Медисин-Лодж [ Medicine Lodge Treaty] (1867). Был смертельно ранен в битве за остров Бичера [ Beecher's Island, Battle of] (1868) -
