81 -assumere e to assume-
Nota d'usoIl verbo assumere non va sempre tradotto con “to assume”. In contesto lavorativo, assumere corrisponde a “to take on”, “to hire” o, più formalmente, “to recruit”: Sono stato assunto l'anno scorso, I was taken on last year; Al momento non assumiamo, we're not recruiting at the moment. In contesto medico, invece, il verbo corretto è “to take”: Assumere quattro volte al giorno, take four times a day (non assume four times a day). “To assume” significa presumere: Presumevo che te l'avesse detto, I assumed she had told you; oppure assumere nel senso di “prendere su di sé”: assumere il comando, to assume control. -
