Esta línea de demarcación, que se extiende a lo largo de 377 kilómetros, fue establecida por Charles Mason y Jeremiah Dixon en el siglo XVIII con el fin de solucionar un conflicto que ya duraba 80 años sobre la frontera entre Maryland y Pensilvania.
