Подхалим, льстец. Это слово имеет интересное, хотя не всеми принимаемое происхождение. Оно произошло от греческого sykophantes, что означает буквально «показыватель фиги» (sykon — фига, phainein — показать), т. е. это человек, который доносил на тех, кто незаконно выращивал фиги или грабил священные фиговые сады. Потом значение слова расширилось и стало синонимом ябеды, подлизы. Прилагательное — sycophantic; sycophance — низкопоклонство, лесть. -
