MLG helen `stick' (PGm. * haljan); the details however remain unclear. Pok. 612 after Fick 1, 389, Zupitza Die german. Gutturale 113; also Vasmer Russ. et. Wb. s. klej. Rom. LW [loanword] It. colla, Fr. colle etc. - A word with similar meaning, with wide spread, is γλοιός, s. v.
