2 Montagnac Cloth
A curly woollen fabric with an astrakhan-like pile. It is very soft, warm and durable. It is produced in France and was first discovered in 1864. The inventor. Baron de Montagnac, discovered how to produce the material by accident - simply by soaking the cloth from the loom in water, then beating it with a heavy cane, he obtained the peculiar curly pile. The cloth is now manufactured on a large scale. Imitation Montagnac cloth is made 72-in. wide, 28 ends and 50 picks per inch, weight 29-02. per yard, from 13/4 run warp and weft. The weave is on 6 ends and 12 picks. -

A woollen dress cloth having a granite-like grain effect. -

A polished yarn silk cloth woven like honeycomb, used for embroidery foundation. -
5 Mamaki Cloth
A cloth made by the natives of Hawaii from the fibres of the nettle-like plant Pepturus. It is plain weave, quite durable, and adapted for many domestic purposes. -
6 Cuba Bast
A fine, strong and soft cloth-like bast of the Hibuscus elatus in Cuba. It is used for millinery purposes because of its lace-like appearance, and was formerly much used for tying up bundles of Havana cigars. The plant also yields a bast fibre which is coarse and strong and is used for the making of cordage and coffee bags. -

Native Peruvian and Bolivian name for a cloth-like bast of the couratari tree; used for blankets, clothing, ropes, etc. -

A fine, strong cloth-like bast, obtained from a species of the mallow in South America. Used for baskets, ropes, and very coarse fabrics. -
