अहन् n. [न जहाति न त्यजति सर्वथा परिवर्तनं, न हा-कनिन् Uṇ.1.55.] (Nom. अहः, अह्नी-अहनी, अहानि, अह्ना, अहोभ्याम् &c.; अहरिति हन्ति पाप्मानं जहाति च Śat. Ved. partaking of the day.-मणिः the sun.-मुखम् commencement of the day, morning, dawn.-स्थन्तरम् (P.VIII.2.68 Vārt.) a portion of Sāma to be chanted at day.-रात्रः (-त्रम् also)1 a day and night (P.II.4.29.); त्रीनहोरात्रान् Nala.12.44; त्रिंशत्कला मुहूर्तः स्यादहोरात्रं तु तावतः Ms.1.64.65; Y.1.147.-2 a day of the Pitṛis, a month of the gods and a year of Brahmā.-विद् a. सुत p. p.1 Poured out.-2 Extracted or expressed (as Soma juice); सुतेन सोमेन विमिश्रतोयाम् Mb.3.12.32.-3 Begotten, produced, brought forth.-तः 1 A son.-2 A child, offspring.-3 A king.-4 Expressed Soma juice; अहरहर्ह सुतः प्रसुतो भवति Bṛi. Up.2.1.3.-5 The Soma sacrifice; दर्शश्च पूर्णमासश्च चातुर्मास्यं पशुः सुतः Bhāg. 7.15.48.-तः, -तम् A Soma libation.-Comp. -अर्थिन् a. desirous of progeny; मध्यमं तु ततः पिण्डमद्यात् सम्यवस्तुता- र्थिनी Ms.3.262.-आत्मजः a grandson. (-जा) a grand- daughter.-उत्पत्तिः f. birth of a son; शौनकस्य सुतोत्पत्त्या (पतति) Ms.3.16.-निर्विशेषम् ind. not differently from a son, just like a son; संवर्धितानां सुतनिर्विशेषम् R.5.6.-वत्सलः an affectionate father.-वस्करा the mother of seven children.-श्रेणी Salvinia Cucullata (Mar. बृहद्दंती, उंदीरकानी &c.).-स्नेहः paternal affection. -
