On the meaning cf. some Slav. words for `inner part of the skin, inner, soft skin etc.', e.g. SCr. mézdra, Sloven. mę́zdra, beside Russ. myazdrá `flesh on the inner part of the skin', to OCS męso, Russ. mjáso `flesh' (= Skt. māṃsá-; s. Vasmer s.v.).
