Work shadowing has traditionally been seen as a way of giving work experience to school students or graduates but it is also a means of offering employees the opportunity to find out more about other jobs within their own or other organizations. -

Succession planning involves preparing the new postholder before the old one leaves, possibly with training or through work shadowing.
