В некоторых исследованиях допускается устное согласие пациента. В этом случае исследователь должен иметь проверочный лист, чтобы обсудить с пациентом все элементы подобного согласия. При этом должен присутствовать свидетель, который следит, чтобы пациенту были сообщены все подробности предстоящего исследования, чтобы он понимал добровольность участия и имел возможность задать исследователю вопросы. Если пациент дает согласие, исследователь должен документировать этот факт.
