Это политическое выражение, обозначающее взаимные услуги, взаимодействие партий в их собственных интересах, вид взаимного сотрудничества. Это значение расширилось, и сейчас logrollers включают, например, литераторов или художников, занимающихся взаимовосхвалением. Первые logrollers — это американские поселенцы, которые помогали откатывать (to roll away) вырубленные брёвна (logs) с земельного участка недавно поселившегося соседа.
