«Ограничение ущерба». Так названо действие или процесс, призванные свести к минимуму возможные пагубные последствия несчастного случая, ошибки или любого неблагоприятного происшествия. Это выражение впервые появилось в США в 1960-х гг. для того, чтобы описать необходимые меры, предпринимаемые в случае ядерной войны. Тогда стало употребляться выражение damage control. Оба выражения встречались в 80-х гг. в сфере политических скандалов и означали меры, принятые, чтобы спасти партию или политического деятеля от позора. Сейчас словосочетание a damage limitation exercise используется при описании любых катастрофических ситуаций, хотя чаще всего имеется в виду политическая оплошность.Lord X was put in charge of a damage limitation exercise.
