vindiciae, ārum, f. (archaist. vindicia, ae, f., XII tabb. XII, 4 Schoell bei Fest. 376, 28. Sen. Sulpicius bei Fest. 376, 26. Gell. 20, 10, 7), (vindico), die von zwei Parteien vor dem Prätor geschehende gerichtliche Inanspruchnahme eines Ggstds., der gerichtliche Anspruch, eig. das Anzeigen von Gewalt, eine symbolische Erklärung, wobei der streitige Ggstd. mit vor den Prätor gebracht wurde (war es ein Grundstück, eine Scholle, so hießen diese auch vindiciae), worauf der Prätor der einen Partei den einstweiligen Besitz zusprach (vindicias dicere secundum alterum eorum, bei Freiheitsklagen immer secundum libertatem, d.h. daß der, dessen Freiheit behauptet wurde, einstweilen frei bleiben sollte), iniustis vindiciis ac sacramentis petere alqd, Cic.: dare vindicias a libertate in servitutem, Cic.: quo (ore) vindiciae nuper ab libertate dictae erant, Cic.: cum vindicias amisisset ipsa libertas, Cic.: decresse vindicias secundum servitutem, Liv.: cedere postulantibus vindicias secundum libertatem, Liv.: dare vindicias secundum libertatem, Liv.
