94 Batiste
Is a cloth of French origin. The term is now applied to a light Swiss-finished cloth, made from ecru coloured yarns when cotton, and grey yarns when flax is used. It is very fine in quality, and as many as 15 yards of 32-in. cloth are required to weigh 1-lb.; 80's to 100's warp and 100's to 160's weft are used in the cotton variety. In flax two qualities are: - 1/42, 86 X 78 per inch, 110's/140's; 2/42-in., 132 X 108 per inch, 22's/240's. This latter cloth is hand woven. A low Batiste is shipped to China and India and is, in fact, merely a cheap plain cloth with a special finish termed a " Batiste Finish." Generally woven such as follows: 50-in. splits, 54 X 52, 40/46. A wool Batiste is also made from very fine yarns and is very similar to nun's veiling. Generally dyed in light shades and used for good quality underclothing. -
95 Camise
As part of the dress of the early Saxons, the camise was an undergarment worn next to the skin. In the 11th century it was embroidered especially for the nobility. The camise and tunic as worn by the Roman women were probably the earliest forms of underclothing (see Camisia) -
96 Ceylons
Are coloured stripe or plain fabrics woven fromcotton warp and a wool mixture weft, plain weave, used for underclothing and shirts. This name was given to the fabric by Messrs. David and John Anderson, Glasgow, about 1858. The weft is from 60 to 80 per cent wool. A popular cloth is woven 68-ends, 60 picks 35's warp, and 22's worsted counts weft (cotton 20 per cent, worsted 80 per cent). So called Ceylons have been given this name, although having about 10 or 15 per cent of wool in their construction. These are not true Ceylons. -

98 Flannel
An all-wool fabric of plain or twill weave, usually quite pure since it is worn as underclothing. The best flannel is made from fully shrunk yarns with a slight twist. It is made in numerous qualities. A standard flannel is made 29/30-in. wide, 38 ends and 42 picks per inch, 30's T. and 26's W., all wool. See also Molletons and Tennis flannels. -
