    держать. Ходовое, понятное слово, но ряд распространенных оборотов с ним сразу точно не осмыслить. Некоторые поясним.

    Keep in touch — пока, до скорого. Дословно - держим связь. Не обманывайтесь, буквальный смысл этого выражения присутствует здесь только в юмористическом плане. Если вам так сказали, не очень вероятно, что вы будете "keep in touch" в прямом смысле. Так саркастически прощаются с неинтересным человеком. Аналогично наше выражение "Держи карман шире!" вовсе не означает, что вам сейчас что-то дадут.

    Keep (one's) cool — оставаться невозмутимым, сохранять спокойствие (например, в трудной ситуации). No matter they kill you. Just keep your cool. То же самое можно сказать иным образом, посочнее:

    Keep your pants (shirt) on! — Дословно: Не потеряй штаны!

    Keep an eye on — приглядывать, держать в поле зрения, под контролем. Will you keep an eye on my alligator while I'm fooling around?

    Keep out of this — не лезь не в свое дело, вали отсюда.

    Keep a low profile (to) — держаться незаметно, не высовываться. Этот принцип иногда помогает и в американских конторах тоже.

    Keep your hands to yourself — если разговор идет между представителями старшего и младшего поколений, это означает: "Не трогай руками", а если между представителями разных полов: "Не распускай руки".
