61 -to give a look o to have/take a look?-
La locuzione corretta è to have/take a look: Can I have (o take) a look at your newspaper?, posso dare un'occhiata al tuo giornale? (non Can I give a look at your newspaper?). L'uso di have è più frequente nell'inglese britannico, mentre to take a look è più comune nell'inglese americano.English-Italian dictionary > -to give a look o to have/take a look?-

62 -to give o to get?-
Nota d'usoIl verbo regalare corrisponde a “to give” o “to get”, con sfumature di significato leggermente diverse. Esistono inoltre i verbi “to gift” e “to present”. Il primo viene usato per lo più in contesti figurati: Sbagliando quel rigore, Jones ha regalato la coppa all'Arsenal, with that penalty miss Jones gifted Arsenal the cup. “To present”, invece, si riferisce soltanto a regali di una certa entità e viene usato di solito in contesti ufficiali: La signora Thomas ha regalato dieci nuovi computer alla biblioteca, Mrs Thomas presented the library with ten new PCs. -
63 -to give up to do o to give up doing?-
Nota d'usoQuando to give up significa “smettere” ed è seguito da un verbo, questo è di norma nella forma in -ing: He gave up smoking last year, ha smesso di fumare l'anno scorso (non He gave up to smoke last year).English-Italian dictionary > -to give up to do o to give up doing?-
