4 -like o as?-
Nota d'usoL'avverbio italiano come può essere tradotto con “like” o con “as”, a seconda dei contesti d'uso. Quando si vuole illustrare una funzione o un ruolo, si utilizza “as”: Uso il bagno come sgabuzzino, I'm using the bathroom as a store room; Ha lavorato come cameriere a Londra, he worked as a waiter in London. Se invece si vuole fare una similitudine o un paragone si usa like: Mangia come un maiale, she eats like a pig; Sei proprio come tua madre, you're just like your mother. -
5 like a house on fire
1) (very well: The two children got on with each other like a house on fire.) (a gonfie vele)2) (very quickly: I'm getting through this job like a house on fire.) velocemente -
6 like a shot
(very quickly; eagerly: He accepted my invitation like a shot.) (in un lampo), (in un battibaleno) -
7 like clockwork
(very smoothly and without faults: Everything went like clockwork.) come un orologio -
8 like fury
(with great effort, enthusiasm etc: She drove like fury.) come una furia -
9 like hot cakes
(very quickly: These books are selling like hot cakes.) velocemente -
10 like mad
(wildly, desperately, very quickly etc: struggling/trying/running like mad.) come un pazzo -
11 like that
(in that way: Don't hold it like that - you'll break it!) così -
12 like the wind
(very quickly: The horse galloped away like the wind.) come il vento -
13 like this
(in this way: It would be quicker if you did it like this.) così -
14 like-minded adj
[ˌlaɪk'maɪndɪd] -
15 like grim death
(with great determination.) con tutte le forze -
16 like-minded
-
17 -to feel like-
Nota d'usoLa locuzione to feel like usata in maniera impersonale significa “sembrare”: It feels like home, sembra di essere a casa. In presenza di un soggetto personale, invece, to feel like assume il significato “aver voglia di”: I feel like an ice-cream, ho voglia di un gelato. In questa accezione, to feel like deve essere seguito da un verbo nella forma in -ing: I feel like going swimming, ho voglia di andare a nuotare. -
18 feel like
1) (to have the feelings that one would have if one were: I feel like a princess in this beautiful dress; He felt like an idiot (= He felt very foolish).) sentirsi2) (to feel that one would like to (have, do etc): I feel like a drink; Do you feel like going to the cinema?) avere voglia -
19 -piacere e to like-
Nota d'usoIl verbo piacere viene spesso tradotto con “to like”. Occorre però ricordare che questi due verbi hanno una costruzione diversa perché “to like” è transitivo e richiede sempre un oggetto: Che cosa ne pensi di questa canzone? Mi piace, What do you think of this song? I like it (non, letteralmente, I like). -
20 -to like-
