non-polluting energy source
Energy that is ecologically safe and renewable. The most widely used source is hydroelectric power, which currently supplies some 6.6% of the world's energy needs. Other non-polluting sources are solar energy, tidal energy, wave energy and wind energy. Most non-polluting energy sources require a high capital investment but have low running costs. 40 renewable energy
renewable energy sources
Means renewable non-fossil energy sources (wind, solar, geothermal, wave, tidal, hydropower, biomass, landfill gas, sewage treatment plant gas and biogases) (Directive 2003/54/EC).
renewables
renewable energy
RE
Energy sources that are naturally replensihed in the short term, including non-carbon technologies such as solar energy, hydropower and wind as well as carbon-neutral technologies such as biomass. There is considerable overlap between renewables and DE. When renewables are used to generate power where it is required renewables can be said to fall within the DE definition. On the other hand large wind farms, that are built remotely from where the electricity is used, do not fall under the DE definition.
