(θυμέλη), auf der athenischen Bühne eine altarförmige viereckige, auf Stufen sich erhebende Erhöhung in der Mitte des Tanzraums für den Chor (ὀρχήστρα), auf der der Chorführer stand, so daß ihn sämtliche Chortänzer im Auge haben und er von dort aus ihre Bewegungen leiten konnte, dah. später für Theater, Schauspiel übh., Sidon. epist. 9, 13. carm. v. 2: actuarii thymelae (= thymelici, s. unten).
