Фильм (который, кстати, на драматургическом уровне замечательно передает содержание книги) становится словно бы мюзиклом без музыки, шедевром хореографии, где большинство перипетий служат предлогом для очередной балетной фигуры. Дуэль д'Артаньяна и Жюссака под музыку Чайковского (сильно измененную в аранжировке) была на тот момент самой длинной дуэлью в истории кинематографа (5 мин), пока ее рекорд не побил сам Сидни в Скарамуше, Scaramouche. Кроме того, в фильме содержится гениальный – и единственный – комический трюк, содержание которого невозможно передать, не испортив впечатление от будущего просмотра.N.В. Несколько слов о других экранизациях романа. Картина Фреда Нибло, США, 1921, с Дагласом Фэрбенксом, поверхностна, динамична и, в общем и целом, достойна просмотра (несомненно, именно ей больше всего обязан фильм Сидни). Версия Анри Диаман-Бержера (Les trois mousquetaires, 12 серий, вышедшие в 1921 г.), как и ее продолжение Двадцать лет спустя, Vingt ans après, 10 серий, вышедшие в 1922 г., примечательна реконструкцией эпохи (декорации, костюмы, экстерьеры и т. д.), однако режиссура в них очень статична. В звуковой версии того же Диаман-Бержера (1932), вышедшей в 2 частях – Подвески королевы, Les ferrets de la reine и Миледи, Milady, – уже не сохранилось ни одно из достоинств немого фильма.
