La diffusion des quotidiens est élevée ( Sun: 4 millions ; Telegraph: 1 million) et la plupart d'entre eux publient une édition ‘week-end’ extrêmement populaire. Les États-Unis ne comptent pas véritablement de quotidien national (sauf USA Today), mais chaque grande ville a ses propres journaux ( Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Washington Post, etc.). La presse du soir est plus abondante que celle du matin. Dans 80% des cas, les journaux sont distribués à domicile par des jeunes qui gagnent ainsi leur argent de poche.
