Гонять, травить. В конце XIV в. семьи Перси из Нортумберленда и Дугласов из Шотландии постоянно враждовали, совершая набеги на владения друг друга через Шевиотовы Холмы, которые разделяли их территории. Это и послужило причиной возникновения глагола to chevy — раздражать, подстрекать. Позже этот глагол стали писать chivy, а потом chivvy. Эти обоюдные набеги завершились битвой при Оттерберне, в которой две стороны понесли большие потери.I have already said that my report will be ready on Thursday so please stop telephoning me.
