7 Porlock
Porlock ['pɔ:lɒk]ⓘ The person from Porlock Cette formule ("la personne de Porlock") est une allusion au poète anglais Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Ce dernier était dans sa maison du Somerset en train de composer son poème Kubla Khan, inspiré par un rêve qui lui était venu sous l'effet de l'opium, lorsqu'un visiteur (la personne de Porlock) vint l'interrompre pour une affaire sans importance. Coleridge fut dans l'incapacité de terminer son poème comme il l'espérait. Aujourd'hui, on utilise cette formule de façon allusive pour parler d'un importun qui vient interrompre quelqu'un et lui fait perdre son inspiration. Ainsi on pourra dire I knew that I would be alone all day and that no person from Porlock was likely to interrupt me ("je savais que je serais seul toute la journée et que personne ne viendrait me déranger").
