Nota d'usoQuando si vuole specificare che un alimento non è dolce ma salato, l'aggettivo più appropriato è “savoury”, non “salted” o “salty”: Adoro i croissants salati, I love savoury croissants; Preferisco il salato al dolce, I prefer savoury food to sweet things. “Savoury” può anche significare “saporito”, “gustoso”: un piatto gustoso, a savoury dish. L'aggettivo “salty” viene usato quando c'è del sale in eccedenza o quando il sale è il sapore principale: Le acciughe di solito sono salate, anchovies are usually salty; mentre “salted” indica un alimento preparato con aggiunta di sale: arachidi salate, salted peanuts. -

Nota d'usoIl significato più importante della parola suit è “abito completo da uomo” e fa rima con le parole boot e cute: to wear a smart pin-stripe suit, indossare un bel completo gessato. Suite significa principalmente “appartamento” o un “complesso, insieme di oggetti”: to stay in the hotel's honeymoon suite, stare nella suite luna di miele dell'hotel; a bathroom suite, arredo per il bagno (lavandino, vasca, WC, ecc.); a suite of programs, un pacchetto di programmi informatici. La parola suite si pronuncia allo stesso modo di sweet e fa rima con beat e feet. -

Nota d'usoQuando si parla di alimenti che possono avere diversi “gusti” come gelati, frappè e snack, si utilizza la parola flavour, non taste: What flavour would you like?, Che gusto vuoi? Il sostantivo taste, in contesto alimentare, si avvicina di più al significato della parola “sapore”: Ice cream usuallly has a sweet taste, il gelato di solito ha un sapore dolce.
