Это слово придумал в 1954 г. британский архитектурный критик Иэн Нэйрн для разваливающихся пригородных жилых кварталов, построенных с целью удовлетворить желание людей, работающих в городе, иметь деревенское окружение и одновременно городские удобства. Слово состоит из частей слов suburb (пригород) и utopia (утопия). Оно обозначает обезображенный пейзаж: бетонные столбы, уличные фонари, заборы, проволочные решётки и т. п. Прилагательное — subtopian. -
