(voice coder, voice encoder/decoder) вокодер, речевой кодер, параметрический кодераппаратное или программное средство, реализующее алгоритм сжатия речи для хранения и передачи по линиям связи, например, оцифрованной речи в голосовой почте. Вокодер использует некоторую параметрическую модель речеобразования (например, CELP, LPC) и, опираясь на неё, анализирует параметры исходного речевого сигнала (например, информацию о параметрах фильтра и об источнике возбуждения) и затем кодирует эти параметры. Таким образом, по каналу связи передаётся не сам кодированный речевой сигнал, а его кодированные параметры модели. Восстановление исходного речевого сигнала осуществляется с помощью специального синтезатора, использующего декодированные параметры речи.
