    שִׁופּוּט, שִׁפּ׳m. ( שפט, v. שִׁפְטָא) childishness, folly, vanity. Koh. R. to I, 13 (expl. ענין רע, ib.) זה שִׁיפּוּטֹו של ממון this is the folly of greed for wealth (because it is never satisfied); זה שיפוטו של גזל this is the folly of robbery (because it is the foremost among the accusers of man before the throne of God); ib. זה שִׁיפּוּטָהּ של תורהוכ׳ this is the vanity of study, because one learns and: forgets again.Pl. שִׁיפּוּטִים, שִׁפּ׳ (= παιδιά) boyish things, sport, (euphem. for) sodomy. Ex. R. s. 8 (ref. to 2 Chr. 24:24) א״ת שפטים אלא ש׳ read not shfaṭim (punishment) but shippuṭim (sport); Tanḥ. Bshall. 25; ib. Vaëra 9.
