процесс спонтанного самопроизвольного образования сложной биологической макромолекулы (ее третичной или четвертичной структуры) или белок-нуклеинового комплекса (напр., вируса) из составляющих элементов (полипептидных цепей, РНК и т.п.). Так, С. полипептида зависит от взаимного расположения составляющих его аминокислот, поскольку разные аминокислоты, а точнее, их радикалы (боковые цепи) обладают разными физикохимическими свойствами; взаимодействуя друг с другом, они стабилизируют трехмерную структуру белка. Супрамолекулярная С. (см. супрамолекулярная химия) заключается в спонтанной ассоциации как минимум двух или более компонентов за счет образования нековалентных связей и без затраты энергии, которая приводит к образованию или дискретных супермолекул, или протяженных полимолекулярных ансамблей (молекулярные слои, пленки и т.д.). С. свойственна и некоторым небиологическим молекулам (напр., путем С. происходит формирование кремниевых наноструктур на подложке из органического геля).см. также самоорганизацияТолковый биотехнологический словарь.
