    N (US) franja del sur de Estados Unidos caracterizada por su clima cálido SUNBELT A los estados del sur de EE.UU. que van desde Carolina del Norte hasta California se les denomina sunbelt (cinturón del sol) por su clima cálido. Este nombre también se asocia con el reciente desarrollo económico de la zona, lo cual ha dado lugar a un aumento de población (por el movimiento demográfico de norte a sur) y a un mayor poder político. Por oposición a este término, a los estados del norte se les llama a veces frostbelt (cinturón de escarcha) o rustbelt (cinturón de óxido), por el número de fábricas ya en declive que hay en la zona.
