[англ. ribo(se) — рибоза, от перестановки букв в англ. arabinose — арабиноза и греч. soma — тело]мелкие (около 20 нм) сферические внутриклеточные частицы (органоиды), содержащиеся в цитоплазме, которые представляют собой рибонуклеопротеидные комплексы, построенные из двух субъединиц: большой и малой. В состав субъединиц входят рибосомные РНК и рибосомные белки. Функция Р. заключается в узнавании трехбуквенных кодонов мРНК, сопоставлении им соответствующих аминокислот и присоединении этих аминокислот к растущей белковой цепи. Двигаясь вдоль молекулы мРНК, Р. распознает кодон за кодоном и синтезирует белок в соответствии с информацией, заложенной в молекуле мРНК. Р. впервые обнаружены с помощью электронного микроскопа Г. Паладе в 1955 г. (Нобелевская премия за 1974 г.). Термин "Р." предложен Р. Робертсом в 1958 г.см. также полирибосомыТолковый биотехнологический словарь. Русско-английский. > рибосомы
