Реальный валютный курс
Курс валюты, выраженный в неизменных ценах с учетом инфляции. Например, когда в какой-либо стране темпы инфляции выше, чем у ее торговых партнеров, экспорт этой страны станет дороже, а импортные товары дешевле товаров отечественного производства, если только она не девальвирует свою валюту, чтобы компенсировать вызванную инфляцией разницу. В тех случаях, когда валютные курсы фиксируются условиями международных договоров или устанавливаются рынком без учета относительных темпов инфляции, номинальный валютный курс может существенно отличаться от реального. Теория стоимости финансовых активов (при определении валютного курса)
Теоретическое объяснение неустойчивости валютного курса в условиях системы плавающих курсов валют. В то время как в теории паритета покупательной способности (см. Purchasing-power parity theory) говорится, что спекулятивные биржевые операции не препятствует достижению равновесия платежного баланса, в теории стоимости активов подчеркивается, что это скорее всего не так. Валютный курс - это цена финансового актива, т.е. относительная цена, по которой денежные средства, акции, облигации и другие финансовые активы какой-либо страны охотно покупаются отечественными и иностранными вкладчиками. Реальное изменение валютного курса или ожидания возможного его изменения могут привести к тому, что держатели ценных бумаг будут вынуждены пересмотреть портфель своих активов. В результате изменение спроса на активы в иностранной валюте относительно спроса на активы в отечественной валюте может стать причиной резких колебаний валютных курсов. В частности, неуверенность в том, какими будут рыночные процентные ставки, и нежелание банков и других участников валютных рынков открывать крупные позиции в отдельных валютах, особенно в «мягких», могут вызвать сокращение фондов, необходимых для стабилизации спекулятивных операций, что в свою очередь смягчит беспорядочные колебания валютных курсов или даже позволит их избежать. Если все же это так, тогда «переключение» с одного финансового актива на другой, по всей видимости, усилит рыночные колебания, возникщие в результате расчетов по текущим операциям и, следовательно, приведет к формированию таких валютных курсов, которые будут препятствовать установлению в длительной перспективе эффективного равновесия платежного баланса.Новый англо-русский словарь-справочник. Паритет двух валют при таком обменном курсе (rate of exchange), который способен наделить каждую из них абсолютно одинаковой покупательной способностью в собственной стране. Концепция, согласно которой обменные курсы стремятся к отражению паритетов покупательной способности, возникла еще в 17 в., но по крайней мере в применении к краткосрочным периодам она оказалась неверной (см.: overshooting (чрезмерный рост/“пересол”)). Она может быть справедливой применительно к долгосрочным периодам и часто используется как критерий тех уровней соотношений, которые должны установиться между курсами валют (хотя измерение их сложно и противоречиво).

Сравнительная характеристика валют в условиях системы плавающих обменных валютных курсов. Поскольку разная покупательная способность валют (оцениваемая на основе стоимости «потребительских корзин«) приводит к их перемещению туда, где на единицу валюты можно приобрести больше товаров и услуг, то курсы валют, при прочих равных условиях, в конце концов должны прийти к равенству (паритету) покупательной способности. Теория ППС, которая таким образом объясняет динамику валютных курсов, не учитывает, однако, перемещения капиталов между странами, не связанные со срав¬нительной стоимостью «потребительских корзин». А такие перемещения ощутимо сказываются на динамике валютных курсов. Тем не менее, выводы теории ППС используются в сравнительных исследованиях, в частности, при сопоставлении ВВП и национального дохода, уровня жизни населения разных стран. Например, при этом учитывается, что по мере экономического развития показатели ВВП, рассчитанные по паритету покупательной способности, и ВВП, рассчитанного по текущему валютному курсу, сближаются. Чем богаче страна, тем этот разрыв меньше.
