•• В современном словоупотреблении, особенно в США, практически утратило значение, эквивалентное русскому публицист (см., например, Oxford American Dictionary, где это значение отсутствует). Основное значение – специалист в области рекламы, например, рекламный агент или иногда автор рекламных текстов. Во втором подзначении чаще употребляется слово copywriter (не путать с copyright – авторское право). Как же в таком случае перевести русское публицист? Можно рекомендовать political writer или social commentator. Страница публицистики в серьезных газетах называется Op-Ed Page (opinion and editorial). Статьи, публикуемые там, называют op-ed articles (или pieces) – публицистические статьи.
