[франц. proteine — белок, от греч. protos — первый и лат. - in(e) — суффикс, обозначающий "подобный", греч. glykys — сладкий и лат. - an(e) — суффикс, используемый для названий углеводородов]особый тип гликопротеидов (см. гликопротеины), у которых полипептидная и полисахаридная части молекулы соединены прочной ковалентной связью. У П. масса углеводных остатков значительно превосходит массу белка и углеводы представлены линейными цепями многократно повторяющихся дисахаридов. Так как один из сахаров дисахарида обычно имеет аминогруппу, повторяющуюся единицу называют гликозаминогликаном. Примером П. может служить гиалуропротеин, выделенный из синовиальной жидкости и содержащий всего 2,2—2,3 % белка. У разных П. белковые компоненты различны; они не имеют ничего общего с фибриллярными белками соединительной ткани — коллагеном и эластином. Считают, что в большинстве случаев остаток серина служит той точкой полипептидной цепи молекулы П., к которой присоединяется гликозаминогликан. В соединительной ткани П. образуют ряд "монтажей" последовательно возрастающей сложности, своего рода "иерархии" макромолекулярных агрегатов. Функции П. в соединительной ткани во многом определяются свойствами входящих в их состав гликозаминогликанов. Так, ионообменная активность гликозаминогликанов как полианионов обусловливает активную роль П. в распределении ряда катионов в соединительной ткани. Такие функции П., как связывание экстрацеллюлярной воды и регуляция процессов диффузии, также в значительной мере зависят от свойств входящих в их состав гликозаминогликанов.Толковый биотехнологический словарь.
