Товар или услуга, эластичность спроса по доходу которых отрицательна, т.е. по мере увеличения дохода спрос на такой продукт падает (например, спрос молодых супружеских пар на небольшие квартиры). Когда цена на низкокачественный продукт снижается, что способствует росту доходов потребителя в реальном выражении, эффект дохода (см. Income effect) вызывает снижение спроса. С другой стороны, действие эффекта замещения (см. Substitution effect) от снижения цены приводит к росту спроса, поскольку продукт стал относительно дешевле. Основная масса продуктов относится к категории нормальных (см. Normal product), в отношении которых эффект дохода и эффект замещения действуют в одном направлении. См. Товар или услуга, эластичность спроса по доходу которых положительна, т.е. по мере увеличения дохода спрос на такой продукт растет. При снижении цены на нормальный продукт увеличивается реальный доход потребителя. Эффект дохода будет способствовать росту спроса, что в свою очередь усилит эффект замещения, действие которого также стимулирует спрос. Потребители будут покупать больше этого продукта, т.к. он стал относительно дешевле. Такая тенденция характерна для большей части товаров, за исключением низкокачественных продуктов (см.
