В БСЭ дается следующее определение: "Знание – проверенный практикой результат познания действительности, верное ее отражение в сознании человека".
Одним из базовых тезисов принято считать высказывание П.Дракера, одного из основоположников направления "управление знаниями": "В книгах, базах данных, программах нет знаний, в них находится только информация. Знание всегда содержится в человеке, поддерживается человеком, создается, приумножается, улучшается человеком, применяется человеком, переходит от одного человека к другому в ходе обучения, наконец, используется человеком правильно или ошибочно".
Известный теоретик SNA (social network analysis) Этьен Венгер определяет знание по-своему. Знание - то, что постепенно аккумулируется в человеческом сообществе, стремящемся понять окружающий мир и эффективно адаптироваться к нему. Знание не может быть принадлежностью одного лица, оно приобретается в процессе совместного поиска решения определенной задачи и требует постоянного обмена идеями.
Здесь, видимо, происходит некоторое смещение от понятия "знание" к процессу приобретения нового знания.
В глоссарии сайта "Технологии менеджмента знаний" (www.kmtec.ru) приведено следующее толкование данного термина:
знания – совокупность сведений, понятий, представлений о чем-либо, полученных, приобретенных, накопленных в результате учения, опыта, в процессе жизни и т.д. и обычно реализуемых в деятельности. Более формальные определения применяемые обычно в рамках менеджмента знаний:

2.13 знание (Knowledge): Набор данных и информации (с точки зрения некоторой определенной информационной технологии). Включает также различные комбинации новой технологии, производственного опыта, эмоций, верований, значений величин, идей, интуиции, любопытства, мотивации, стилей обучения, отношения, способности доверять, способности решать сложные проблемы, открытости, умения работать в компьютерной сети, коммуникабельности, отношения к риску, наличия духа предпринимательства. Использование знаний приводит к накоплению ценных активов, улучшает способность действовать и принимать эффективные решения. В отличие от формализованного знания (см. 2.7) существует знание неформализованное (см. 2.29). Оно также может быть индивидуальным и коллективным.
