30 a bird in the hand
нечто реальное, надёжное, верное дело [часть пословицы a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush; см. a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush]But Butler was not a philanthropist. He would have to be approached with a very sizable bird in hand. (Th. Dreiser, ‘The Financier’, ch.
Mrs. Parker-Jennings: "...When I wanted Ethel to marry him, she wouldn't so much as look at him, and now that she can have some one else for the asking, she's with 'im all day..." Vincent: "Well, I'm for the bird in the hand, mother."
