PEOPLE, PERSONS, FOLK, FOLKSPeople употребляется в тех случаях, когда речь идет о большом количестве людей, среди которых нельзя или нет необходимости выделять отдельные, индивидуальные лица: most people like music; there are many people here. Persons имеет в виду отдельных лиц, число которых является обычно незначительным: a few persons have called this morning; there are two or three persons in the room. Folk и folks в значении 'люди' имеют ярко выраженную разговорную окраску, например: folks say, different folk have different views. Folks наряду с этим означает 'родня': one's folks, 'родители': one's old folks. Difficulties of the English language (lexical reference) English-Russian dictionary > persons
