πάτος 3.Grammatical information: n.Meaning: = ἔνδυμα τῆς Ἥρας (Call.Fr. 495, H.).Etymology: After Bq and WP. 2, 661 (as supposition) to spinnen, Goth. spinnan etc.; s-less forms in Lith. pinù `plait', OCS pьnǫ `strain' (cf. on πένομαι). But perh. just backformation of πατέω as "what is tread" = `long, cloth reaching to the feet, train', the ntr. after φᾶρος, εἷμα a.o. (?; Frisk Eranos 38, 46).
